Fall Haircut Trends

By Liz Kline

Looking for some new and exciting styles to offer your clients or just some inspiration for yourself to spice things up? Associated Hair Professionals is here to help you navigate the remainder of 2023 with some exciting fall hair trends.

Embracing the Shaggy Lob

One of the top haircuts of 2023 that’s still extremely popular is the shaggy lob. Its ease and versatility make it a cut that looks good on most face shapes, and it provides an easy transition for growing out shorter styles, especially those with lots of layers. This is a super cute look when styled with beach waves, a wash-and-go look for those with naturally curly hair, or a subtle yet impressive look when incorporating simply flipped ends.

The Iconic “Rachel”

Next on our list is “The Rachel,” inspired by the hit TV show, Friends. This style has tons of layers plus face framing that accommodates most face shapes. This 90s haircut hit has made its way back into our hearts (thanks to the revival of many decade trends) and is a popular choice among several age groups. The best part of this style is that it allows for a lot of movement, so it can be styled multiple ways—curly or straight—and looks fabulous in a ponytail or messy bun. Unique to this cut is its versatility, working well on both longer or shorter hair and also providing the movement and volume necessary for thin hair.

Flirty Curtain Bangs

If you (or your clients) aren’t looking for drastic change but are interested in something refreshing, curtain bangs can be your solution. A soft, wispy fringe to accentuate your already fabulous daily style will add interest, movement, and shape around your face.

Go Chic with the Italian Bob

But for those looking for an extreme change or complete hair makeover, look to the Italian bob. This short, chic, and flirtatious style can be paired with a bold bang or left a single length, depending on the type of drama you’re looking to achieve. This chin-skimming haircut hugs the face and suits most face shapes but is especially flattering on those with oval, round, or heart face shapes.

The Everlasting Pixie

Pixie cuts are always sweet and sassy—especially a revised pixie. This short style is flattering for most face shapes, with the revised pixie being even more versatile than its traditional counterpart. The best part about this style is that there are no rules to this cut. That’s right, you can leave a long or short bang, cut around the ear or leave some length to fully cover it, crop the back, or leave a longer fringe along the neckline. The choice is up to you and your clients, depending on the desired results.

Making Volume Easy

Texture, texture, texture—there’s never enough! Smooth and sleek will always be classic, but texture can create softness, boldness, or spice in a cut that may be lacking volume or movement. With the help of products like beach spray or pomade and tools like a curling iron or hair waver, adding texture to virtually any style is possible. I always recommend using a heat protectant while hair is damp and before drying it, then volumizing spray or mousse to add lift. Once hair is dry, let your creativity come to life with a hot tool; curl, twist, or leave ends out for a fun and flirty style. Finish with some pomade, beach spray, or light-hold hairspray and voilà!

Now You See Them—Now You Don’t

Invisible layers are perfect for creating an entirely new look that increases movement and volume for those looking for the lighter feel of layers without the appearance of layers. This technique is ideal for those with long hair who do not want to sacrifice any length to get the volume they’re looking for. It’s also great for clients that have fine, thin hair and want more volume and the illusion of thicker hair without removing the minimal bulk they have. Add in some highlights or babylights and you have a fresh, dimensional look.

Run with the inspiration of these fun, popular, and easy-to-execute cuts and spice up your technique repertoire to cap off 2023 with a bang.—your clients will thank you for their trendy and refreshed looks.
