Washington Proposes Increasing Cosmetology Fees

The Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) (https://www.dol.wa.gov/) is proposing to increase cosmetology and other personal services fees. If the proposed revisions are adopted, the fee increases will be effective November 2020.

The fee schedule has not been amended since 2006. According to the DOL, the current fees “are insufficient to sustain the cosmetology and other personal services programs . . . a 25% increase in fees is necessary to continue to provide the information technology systems, staffing levels, and other critical services needed to support licensees and maintain public safety.”
