New Virtual Inspection Process in Washington

The Washington Professional Licensing Support Services (PLSS) is introducing a virtual inspection process for all businesses licensed under the cosmetology program. More information about the virtual inspection process will soon be available here: https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/cosmetology/

The virtual inspection is a change that was created in response to COVID-19. During Governor Inslee’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order, the PLSS Inspections Unit suspended in-person safety and sanitation inspections. The virtual inspection process is an opportunity to adapt and serve licensees in a new way.

This inspection will impact all “salon shop licensed businesses”—a location license for “an establishment that provides cosmetology, hair design, barbering, esthetics, master esthetics, or manicuring services.” This includes independent contractors who rent a booth or station in an establishment.

During a virtual inspection, you can anticipate the following:

  • Salon licensees will be contacted by phone or email to set up an appointment.
  • The inspector will make sure the licensee has required technology and assist those who do not.
  • The licensee will provide a virtual tour of the establishment.
  • Inspection results will be reviewed at the end of the virtual visit, and an inspection form will be provided to the licensee by email.

The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) will start contacting licensees in March 2021. If you have questions or concerns, contact DOL at 360-664-6626.

If you have questions or concerns, email gr@ascpskincare.com.
