Kansas COVID-19 Update: Permission to Practice May 18, 2020

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issued Executive Order No. 20-31 (https://governor.kansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/EO-20-31-Implemen...) on May 14, 2020, implementing Phase 1.5 of “Ad Astra: A Plan to Reopen Kansas.” Under the Executive Order, nail salons, barber shops, hair salons, and other personal service businesses where close contact cannot be avoided may reopen May 18, 2020, but only for prescheduled appointments or by online check-in. It is our understanding that massage therapists are also included as a personal service business where close contact cannot be avoided.
Businesses that reopen must meet the industry-specific guidelines for the personal service sector (https://www.coronavirus.kdheks.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1048/COVID-19-Gui...) developed by the state. This document contains guidance for barbering, cosmetology, esthetics, and nail technology, as well as other similar but unregulated professions, including massage therapy and natural hair braiding. Some of the guidelines are mandated, while others are recommended, so please familiarize yourself with these guidelines.
