Associated Hair Professionals (AHP) wants to give you a quick heads-up on new continuing education (CE) requirements for cosmetologists and barbers effective September 1, 2025. Depending on how long you’ve had your license, here’s what you will need to do for your next renewal.
If you've been licensed for fewer than 15 years, you will need to complete four hours of CE. The training must include:
- Cosmetology and/or barber-related topics (two hours)
- Human trafficking prevention (one hour)
- Sanitation (one hour)
Note: If you hold both a cosmetology and barber license, the CE hours you complete for one license will satisfy the requirements for both.
If you've been licensed for 15 years or more, you need to complete two hours of CE. The training must include:
- Human trafficking prevention (one hour)
- Sanitation (one hour)
Note: If you’re a dual license holder but haven't held both licenses for 15 years, you will need to complete one hour in sanitation, one hour in human trafficking prevention, and two hours in cosmetology and/or barbering-related content until both licenses reach that 15-year milestone.
