Cosmetologists, you can now offer clients even more skin rejuvenation services to help enhance appearances that go beyond your basic skin care spa packages. In late April, Governor Brian Kemp signed into law House Bill 502 (HB 502), which adds devices to the definition of cosmetic laser services and removes supervision requirements for master-level cosmetologists and estheticians.
HB 502 amends the definition of “cosmetic laser services” to include additional devices and services, such as energy-based medical procedures using an ultrasound, cryolipolysis, microwave, or radio-frequency device, so long as the device is not expected or intended to remove, burn, or vaporize the live epidermal surface of the skin.
In addition, licensed master-level cosmetologists or estheticians who have an assistant cosmetic laser practitioner license no longer need to practice under on-site supervision of a senior laser practitioner.
