AHP has some exciting news, and it’s a milestone that’s been four years in the making. Arizona has officially become the first state in the nation to issue multistate cosmetology licenses under the Cosmetology Licensure Compact. This means Arizona-licensed cosmetologists can now apply for a single multistate credential to practice across all participating Compact states. It’s a major win for license portability and career opportunities.
More States on the Way
What could make this news even sweeter? Twelve other states have already enacted the Compact and are preparing to follow Arizona’s lead, with additional multistate licenses expected to roll out in spring 2027. To date, participating Compact states include:
- Alabama

- Colorado
- Delaware
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Maryland
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Washington
