Alabama Adopts Cosmetology Compact

AHP is excited to announce that the Alabama legislature adopted House Bill 246 (HB 246), the Cosmetology Licensure Compact (Compact), on June 14. The goal of the Compact is to simplify interstate cosmetology practice and regulation by reducing unnecessary burdens related to licensure by endorsement or reciprocity.

Now that Alabama has passed HB 246, at least six more states must pass the Compact bill to enable cosmetologists in those participating states to obtain a multistate license, making it easier for professionals to work in other jurisdictions temporarily and with ease. This process will reduce the financial burdens of cosmetologists requiring and paying for multiple state licenses and will eliminate lengthy application wait times. We will let you know once enough states pass the Compact bill so you can start moving from one compact-participating state to another.

As you may know, AHP is in favor of the Compact and encouraged members to write letters to the legislature to advocate for a multistate license. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to contact their local representatives to show support for the Compact. It’s so important for lawmakers to hear from people who will be impacted by a bill, key stakeholders like you. AHP applauds the industry professionals who elevated their voices to help pass this legislation.
